Words for Offertory
The act of giving is a theological act.
For when we give, we make big claims about what we believe to be true about the world, and about humans, and about the way life things works. When we freely share our resources, we make the important claim that we have been given much, that we have much to share. When we give, we make the audacious claim that our choices, our lives, matter. And when we give in response to all that we have been given - whether thru the offering basket or the very convenient QR code located in your order of service - we take a stand on the side of hope, and the side of love, believing in the great possibility of a community, of a world, transformed by our care. We will now gratefully receive the offering. |
Giving in the free church is an act of faith. We give in response to all the gifts we have been given. We give in gratitude. We give because love grows as it is shared.
Let us further the reach of love in the world, and give of our resources abundantly, believing in the possibility of a community, and a world, transformed by our care. We will now gratefully receive the offering. We are a part of a greater interconnected web of existence, each a piece wonderfully interdependent. And so we know, every single thing we do has a consequence. It all matters.
We know we must be thoughtful, careful about our choices, for each of our actions will help shape the course of our whole world. In our congregation, we seek ways for the consequences of our lives to be a blessing, for our lives to create in the world greater goodness. And so we gather up the best of our resources, and offer them as gifts to one another, and to the wider community. We give abundantly as we know we have been blessed abundantly. We give generously for we believe in a generous world. It is in this spirit that we now gratefully receive the offering. |
